Hey! I’m Chris Cox and I write LGBTQ+ romance about Louisiana boys in love under the Bayou Boys series.
So what’s the deal about the Sean and Rusty books and the Rougarous MM hockey romance books both being Bayou Boys books — yet they are not the same?
Ah, cher, they kind of are. Let me explain. Sean and Rusty were one couple, six books, and they ran warmer. They were also written in 2014, the year before marriage equality became the law, when a man could still lose a job or an apartment for being gay and nobody had to disguise the reason why. That’s baked into those books.
The Rougarous books — minor-league hockey in Baton Rouge, a new couple every book, slow burn with a cinematic fade — are about how far we’ve come, and sometimes, how far we haven’t come.
Both miniseries are about celebrating who we are and loving who we love. Same part of the country. Same emotional feel. Same conviction that being gay shouldn’t make a difference, and the same reality that sometimes it does.
Here’s the thing: in South Louisiana, we are all related somehow, and that’s how my books come to me, too. All related somehow. All about Louisiana boys in love. All celebrating that love with you, dear reader. So pick up a book and laissez les bons temps rouler — let the good times roll.
